View Info allows you to view, change, create and delete any (standard and custom) document information fields in a PDF using an easy-to-use user interface from Acrobat.

To create and modify document information fields, you need to buy one fully-functional copy of View Info to use with Acrobat. With a fully-functional version you can view and modify document information fields for a PDF document from Acrobat's File> Document Info> View Info menu item.

Why Use Document Information Fields?

Document information fields in PDF files can be indexed using Acrobat Catalog, enabling search on the metadata rather than just the full text. The standard fields of Title, Subject, Author, and Keywords, are always indexed.

To try out searching:

• Click on the search button on the Acrobat tool bar
• Select the indexes that you wish to search in
• Enter search text into the individual document information boxes. (If the document information fields do not display in the search window, go to Edit | Preferences | General, click on Search in the left-hand list, and check the box "Document Information".)
• Click on "Search"

Custom Document Information Fields

Only the standard fields listed above (Title, Subject etc) are usually indexed. However, it is possible for custom fields to be created and indexed too. To use custom fields:

• Use View Info to create and edit some custom fields, perhaps for a document ID, or some other data that does not fit into the standard fields.
• Start Catalog and set up the custom field(s) to be indexed from the Preferences settings.
• Build the index and then you can use it in Acrobat to search on the custom fields using a query. For more information, see our support pages.

Batch Processing

You can import (i.e. create and modify) and export document information fields in batch using our Options product.

Free Use of the Evaluation Version

The evaluation version of View Info may be used for free, with Adobe Acrobat, as long as you follow the conditions in the View Info licence agreement. You may also distribute the evaluation version of View Info for free as long as you follow the conditions in the View Info licence agreement. These conditions include either distributing our installer, or a customised Acrobat installer which installs the View Info plug-in and Online Guide in the correct places.
